Dr. Marnie Edwards
Dr. Marnie Edwards was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon in 1987 and moved to Leduc, Alberta where she practiced for three years in a mixed animal practice. In 1990 she moved to Nanaimo and practiced as an associate Veterinarian until 2004 when she purchased Benson View Veterinary Hospital with Dr. Swabey.
Marnie has a special interest in dermatology, endocrinology and soft tissue surgery.
Marnie and her husband, Malcolm, have three children, a four year old mixed breed rescue named Cedar and an Australian Shepherd named Quincy. In her spare time Marnie enjoys fitness training at the gym, swimming and hiking.
Dr. Anne-Lii Summa
Dr. Anne-Lii Summa is co-owner of Benson View Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Summa graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph in 1988. She continued her training at Cornell University’s New York State College of Veterinary Medicine by completing an Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery. She moved to B.C. in 1989 where she practiced as an associate Veterinarian for fifteen years before purchasing Benson View Veterinary Hospital with Dr. Edwards in 2004.
Dr. Summa lives with her husband Thomas, her Standard Poodle Sully and a cat named Shadow. She is an avid mountain biker, runner, skier and cyclist. She enjoys reading, music, hiking and travelling. Professionally, she has a special interest in surgery and ophthalmology.
Dr. Connie Beauchamp
Dr.Connie Beauchamp grew up in Port Alberni, BC. She graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 and has worked as an associate veterinarian at Benson View Veterinary Hospital since then. Although she enjoys all areas of general practice, Connie has a special interest in dentistry and internal medicine. Prior to pursuing her dream of becoming a veterinarian, Connie worked as a Registered Veterinary Technologist for 8 years in Edmonton, AB. Connie and her husband share their home with a Collie/Shepherd X named Duncan. In her spare time she enjoys walking with her dog, canoeing and gardening.
Dr. Kari Hilsen
Dr. Kari Hilsen was born and raised in Regina, SK. She completed her veterinary degree at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) in 2014. Before moving to Nanaimo Dr. Hilsen practiced in a small animal clinic for 3 years in Medicine Hat, AB. Her areas of veterinary interest include surgery, dentistry and preventative medicine. Dr. Hilsen lives with her partner Kent and their 4 dogs Baja, Georgia, Charlee and Izzy. In their free time they enjoy hiking, kayaking and exploring Vancouver Island.
